FPIP joins hands with locators and Batangas LGUs for river cleanup
First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) hosted a river cleanup event inside its premises on September 26, 2023.
Led by the FPIP Utilities, Inc. (FUI), the cleanup event was participated in by over 120 volunteers from the local government units (LGUs) of Batangas, FPIP locators, as well as its employees and service providers.
FUI is a subsidiary of FPIP that provides water and wastewater services to over 130 FPIP locators.
In July 2023, FUI signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the Adopt-an-Estero/Water Body Program, a collaborative effort among communities along creeks and rivers, private sectors, LGUs, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), aimed at achieving a cleaner and safer environment.
Under the MoA, it adopted 3.4 km of the San Juan River, which is one of the 21 major tributaries of Laguna de Bay. It also covers several barangays in Batangas, which includes San Rafael and Sta. Anastacia in Sto. Tomas; and Pantay-Matanda, Pantay-Bata, Ulango and Laurel in Tanauan.
With the aim of protecting, preserving and developing the San Juan River, FUI is activating a series of strategies to support the cause. Among its commitments are the creation of an awareness campaign that will educate people and communities about the importance of river protection; participation in events of the Environmental Management Bureau – CALABARZON Region (EMB R4A); and joining various tree-planting activities while ensuring the survival of the trees they planted.
According to Engr. Jeremaine Esguerra, head of FPIP’s Water Resource Management Group, “Being part of the Adopt-an-Estero/Water Body Program is a significant milestone as it aligns with FPIP’s commitment in protecting the environment to secure a sustainable future for all.”
