FPIP wins PCAPI’s Success Story Award

First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP), one of the leading and fastest growing industrial parks in the Philippines, received the Success Story Award from the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc.’s (PCAPI) during the latter’s 44th National Annual Convention and General Assembly held from April 17 to 19, 2024 at the Boracay New Coast Convention Center in Malay, Aklan.

PCAPI’s Success Story Award recognizes companies that have successfully implemented long-term projects that address environmental problems or have major environmental impact.

Its criteria include having significant contributions to pollution prevention and/or control, natural resources conservation, environmental awareness, and environmental conflict resolution; having measurable and/or documented success; adopting and/or introducing innovative, resourceful strategy; earning sustainable success or benefits; coming up with solutions that are applicable in other industries; and generating significant savings.

FPIP was chosen due to its initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. These include solarization of facilities, utilization of renewable energy through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), park-wide tree-planting, and integration of e-vehicles in its operations.

These initiatives not only made a positive impact on the environment but also yielded economic benefits. On top of saving Php3.1 million, FPIP reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2,681 MTCO2e, which is equivalent to 931 tons of recycled waste, 263,360 gallons of diesel consumption, 44,331 tree seedlings grown for 10 years, and annual electricity use of 529 homes.

“We are a proud recipient of PCAPI’s Success Story Award,” said Armando “Nuj” Ramos, Jr., head of FPIP’s Environment, Safety and Health Department. “Environmental stewardship is one of the core values of FPIP, and this award is a testament to our commitment. It also underscores our efforts to echo First Philippine Holdings’ (FPH) mission to create a regenerative and decarbonized world for current and future generations.”

“We are even more inspired to launch more initiatives that are impactful to nature and compliant with the government’s requirements. We will continue to work with environmental experts and strengthen our existing environmental programs for us to reduce our net emissions to 4,154 MTCO2e by 2030, which is based on the Science Based Target initiatives (SBTi), to achieve net-zero by 2050,” he added.

FPH is the listed holding company of the Lopez Group, with principal interests in energy, power generation and distribution, transformer manufacturing, commercial and residential estate development and management, construction and engineering, as well as healthcare, and education. Aside from FPIP, its other subsidiaries include First Gen Corp., First Philec Inc., Rockwell Land, First Balfour, Inc., Asian Eye Institute, and FIRST College.
