First Philippine Industrial Park Welcomes Dyson
Sto. Tomas, Batangas – First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP), one of the country’s fastest-growing industrial parks, recently welcomed global technology giant Dyson as one of its new locators.
Dyson is investing Php11-billion to expand its current operations in the Philippines and establish the Philippines Technology Center, which will house its Philippine offices, research and development (R&D) and advanced motor manufacturing capabilities under one roof. At present, it has facilities located in Alabang, Muntinlupa, and Calamba, Laguna.
Expected to start operations by the third quarter of 2024, Dyson targets to hire over 400 engineers to focus on software, AI, robotics, fluid dynamics, and hardware electronics, and over a thousand more employees.
Dyson’s new campus in FPIP will become its biggest software center. Its R&D facility will be critical for its high-performing products – from robotic technologies to air enhancement technologies and beauty products, such as the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, which are increasingly enabled by software, sensors, and connectivity.
According to FPIP President Mr. Giles Puno, “FPIP is excited to welcome Dyson. We are honored that they chose FPIP as the location of one of their most advanced technology manufacturing centers, the Philippines Technology Center. The creation of more than 1,000 new high-value jobs is a welcome boost to the Philippines.”
“Dyson is an industry leader and has been setting new standards for cutting-edge research and technology. This new campus is a nod to the talented workforce our country has to offer, and we hope that this will also help the Philippines to be recognized internationally as an innovation hub.”
Dyson’s new state-of-the-art facility will span the equivalent of 92 basketball courts and feature laboratories and offices, as well as leisure and sports areas. The architecture is designed to promote air quality, natural light, and greenery to support collaboration and the generation of new ideas.
Referring to the new FPIP facility as the “Silicon Valley of the Philippines”, Dyson Global Software Director Edwin Adriaansen hopes that it will attract more companies to the area and that it will be the leading software facility in the country, adding that it will have dedicated products being developed.
He shared that they do not see the Philippines as a support entity for Dyson. Instead, they see the Batangas operations as the key to the company’s development, saying that the Philippines has the best characteristics to be successful and has very talented people.
“What we see for me in the Philippines is the ability to learn…the huge amount of great communication. We are a global company. We want people who can communicate and also people who have the passion to want to bring the energy to the team and work as a team,” says John Churchill, Chief Technology Officer at Dyson.
The expansion project of Dyson in the Philippines is part of its five-year investment plan, which includes the development of new campuses, R&D spaces, and manufacturing sites in the United Kingdom, Poland, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Established in 1996 as a joint venture between local conglomerate First Philippine Holdings (FPH) and global trading giant Sumitomo Corporation, FPIP is a special economic zone in the CALABARZON area and is host to a wide variety of world-class companies in such diverse sectors, such as aerospace, consumer goods, electronics, and electrical devices.
