First Philippine Industrial Park offers high-value jobs to Filipinos
Thousands of high-value employment opportunities are available at First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP).
Ricky Carandang, Vice President and Head of External Affairs at FPIP, optimistically expressed that both new and current companies located inside FPIP are in need of engineers, accountants, human resource personnel and office supervisors, among others.
“The job demand is evolving as we get locators that are more sophisticated in their manufacturing. We are seeing a demand for engineers, for example, and more of the higher-end types of employment opportunities.”
FPIP is one of the leading premium industrial parks in the Philippines. With nearly 700 hectares of land, it is the manufacturing hub of choice for 150 world-class locators and employment hub of choice of 70,000 employees. Its locators include Collins Aerospace; Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc.; Canon Business Machines (Philippines), Inc.; and Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc.
Another successful indication of job transformation, multinational technology company Dyson announced its Php11-billion investment to establish the Philippines Technology Center in FPIP, a research and manufacturing campus that is poised to become its biggest software hub.
“We have a wide array of companies represented from consumers to aerospace to electronics and other components, and they are going higher up the value chain. So while they still have a need for workers in a sort of blue-collar type of work, we are seeing a demand for engineers and people with higher skill sets.”
One challenge that companies have to face is the specific skills required by certain types of jobs. To address this, FPIP set up First College. First College reinvents science and technology education to equip its students with the knowledge and skills that are useful to modern industries.
“We know the kind of jobs that they [FPIP locators] are looking for and that are available, and we are trying to create an atmosphere for people that go to this school and learn the skills that can employ them in those opportunities.”
He added, “We are also partnering with educational institutions around Sto. Tomas and Tanauan, where we are located. We are doing our best to try to get people from the local community. Sto. Tomas and Tanauan have hosted us for over 25 years, and we are happy to provide employment for them.”
