FPIP’s World Water Day Cleanup Drives 1.1 Tons of Waste Collection
In celebration of World Water Day, First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) conducted a large-scale river cleanup drive along the San Juan River on March 25, 2026, mobilizing nearly 200 volunteers across three sites.
Organized by FPIP’s water arm, FPIP Utilities, Inc. (FUI), this initiative supports FPIP’s ongoing efforts to protect and rehabilitate the San Juan River, which flows through the municipalities of Tanauan and Sto. Tomas, Batangas, where the industrial park is located.
Participants from various FPIP locator companies, the Philippine EconomicZone Authority (PEZA), and local government units of Sta. Anastacia, Ulango, Pantay Bata, Pantay Matanda, and San Rafael worked together to remove non-biodegradable waste from riverbanks.
Collected materials included plastic debris, discarded tires, and other pollutants that contribute to waterway obstruction and poor water quality. A total of 1.1 tons of waste was collected, segregated, and turned over to an accredited hauler provider for proper disposal.
According to Nelson Lontok, FPIP’s Operations Planning Manager for Water Resource Management, this initiative plays an important role in maintaining the health of the river. “Through this simple activity, we help restore the river ecosystem while encouraging the FPIP community to practice proper waste management and take part in protecting the San Juan River.”
“We recognize that there is no single solution to river pollution. It requires collaboration, stronger regulations, proper implementation, and continuous education. We are happy to see many volunteers consistently take part in this effort,” he said.
