FUI Strengthens Commitment to Water Innovation at PUB Workshop

FPIP Utilities, Incorporated (FUI) took part in the Water Utility Knowledge Exchange Workshop held on May 27, 2025 at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

Organized by Public Utility Board Consultants (PUBC), a subsidiary of PUB Singapore, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Water and Urban Development Forum, the workshop provided a venue for various stakeholders to exchange insights on regional water challenges and explore strategic opportunities to enhance service delivery in the face of climate change and resource constraints.

The knowledge exchange was chaired by Mr. Harry Seah, PUB Senior Consultant and Chairman of PUB Consultants, and facilitated by Mr. Ramon Alikpala, CEO of FutureWater Asia. Mr. Seah is a respected leader in Singapore’s water sector and played a vital role in advancing the country’s sustainable water management, while Mr. Alikpala is a recognized water champion who has made significant contributions in shaping both national and ASEAN-wide water policies.

PUB Singapore shared Singapore’s approach to addressing water security, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship. Central to this is its tiered water pricing system, which, along with the Water Conservation Tax, encourages users to use water more efficiently and responsibly. Under this pricing system, households and business establishments with over 40 cubic meters of water consumption per month are charged higher rates.

PUB Singapore also highlighted NEWater, Singapore’s recycled water that is used primarily in industrial applications. It is priced more affordably and taxed only at 10%, promoting sustainable use of water and reducing the need to use potable water.

Lastly, it adopts cost-reflective pricing, which ensures that tariffs cover the full cost of water production, treatment, and supply. Through this, Singapore can support the long-term viability of its water system.

All these reflect Singapore’s commitment to water security, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship – principles that are closely aligned with FUI’s mission of providing reliable, sustainable, and future-ready water services within and beyond FPIP.

By joining the workshop, FUI reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability. It continues to enhance its operations by optimizing its water tariff structure, expanding the use of alternative sources, incorporating smart technologies to monitor and manage demands, and improving planning frameworks to address or prepare for future supply-demand challenges.

FUI was one of only 28 delegates selected from the 1,200 various water utilities in the Philippines, and the sole representative from an industrial ecozone. The Batangas-based water utility provider was represented by Technical Planning Lead Ariel San Juan Jr. and Water Supply Lead Patrick Felix.

FUI is the dedicated water and wastewater solutions provider of Lopez-led First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP). Since 2000, it has been delivering quality and reliable services to over 150 world-class locators within FPIP. Recently, FUI expanded its offerings beyond industrial companies to include commercial establishments. With this expansion, FUI is broadening its reach and impact in the utilities sector.
